Taking nest cam battery on vacation

Caz66

Hello, we’re heading out on a road trip with our dog. And we’re bringing our new nest cam battery with us to allow us to keep an eye on the dog. I’ve been looking for articles on setting up the nest cam once we’re at a remote location.

has anyone done this, if so what’s the proper way to setup? Thanks.

Hi Caz66,

I have never taken my Nest cameras on the road but I have taken my Chromecast and Google home mini. The method I use is a travel router set up with the same WiFi network information (SSID and password) as I use at home. Then I connect the travel router with either hotel WiFi or my phone's hotspot and I can use the devices with zero other configuration.

Regards,
Cathal

Hello, after following the video setup overview, it works!! Setup the TP Link 750 travel router as a hotspot, in quick setup selected the hotel's wifi unencrypted, added my home ssid and password for the 2.4 & 5 ghz. Clicked finish. Turned on my Google Next indoor/outdoor battery cam in the Googe home app, it came on!!!

Thanks for the quick response and solution, Cathal. Which travel router brand and model do you use.

Hi again,

I have used the 'GL.iNet GL-AR300M16-Ext' for a few years and it's been great.

However there are newer, better models now available.

Thanks for checking in, Archie!
I plan on purchasing the TP-Link AC750 Wireless Nano Travel Router to see if my Nest Camera will function outside its normal environment. I hope the Nest Cam will see the travel router as my Google Wi-fi and then connect.

Well, the nest camera did not connect to my TP Link 750 travel router. I changed the ssid on the travel router to my home wireless ssid. I could see my see it being broadcasted via my phone.

any suggestions?
