I had the original NEST HELLO for years and loved it.   It malfunctioned on day so I got the doorbell 2.  I didn't like it so I ended up returning it within the 30 day window and ended up buying a used NEST HELLO from ebay.   That was 4 years ago and I continue to be happy with it.

Hi emiian,

Thanks for posting in the community and to @mdr2 for jumping in! I understand that your Nest Doorbell device isn't delivering the same high-quality video as the rest of your Nest Cameras. We appreciate you being a loyal Nest user and a Nest Aware subscriber. I know how frustrating it is when a device doesn't perform like the ones you already know and trust, and I'm here to help!

The video quality settings let you choose how much of your internet connection is used by your Nest Doorbell device to stream live video. The higher the quality setting, the more bandwidth is used.

Could you please confirm which specific model of your Nest Doorbell (2nd gen) you have? Is it the battery or wired version? Please check the following link for your reference: Technical specs for Nest cameras and doorbells

Also, could you please confirm if you have set the video quality to the maximum? Here are the steps to check:

  1. Open the Google Home app.
  2. Touch and hold your device’s tile.
  3. At the top right, tap “Settings.”
  4. Choose “Video.”
  5. Under “Video quality,” choose “Max.”

I look forward to your response.

Regards,
Juan

Hi emiian,

Thanks for getting back to me! If your Nest Doorbell’s video looks bad, but it has a good Wi-Fi connection, here are some things to check:

  • Clean the lens with a soft lint-free cloth to remove dust or debris. Try our suggestions on how to Clean your Nest products
  • Change the angle or position of your Nest Doorbell so the sun never shines directly on the lens. For example, angle your camera slightly downward or give it some shade to protect its lens from direct sunlight.

Please keep me posted.

Sincerely,
Juan
