Visitor announcements not working on Home devices

Hi. I've just moved to a new home which came with a Google Nest doorbell that the old owner left. I've done a full factory reset and got the doorbell connected to my Wifi and working on the Home app. I'm getting notifications on my phone when the doorbell rings but nothing is coming through on either of my Google speakers in the house. I have enabled Visitor Notifications so I think we should be hearing a notification on the speakers. It's really annoying as people like the postman are ringing the bell but we're not hearing it and my wife doesn't always notice the notifications on her phone.

Hi @lclift61,

Thank you for posting in the community. I'm sorry to hear you're not getting notifications on your Google speakers when someone rings the doorbell, even when you have the "Visitor announcements" feature enabled. I'll be glad to assist you.

Could you tell me if your Nest Doorbell (battery) is in the same house as your speaker or display? If it’s not, you won’t get visitor announcements.

If Visitor announcements don’t work on your Google Nest or Home speakers or displays, and your devices are in the same house/home structure, turn Do Not Disturb on, then off with the voice commands by following the steps below:

Action

Voice command

(Start with "Ok Google" or "Hey Google")

Enable Do not disturb “Turn on Do not disturb”
Disable Do not disturb “Turn off Do not disturb”

Let me know if you have more questions.

Regards,

Anders

Hello. Thanks for replying. Yes we have moved house and I hadn't realised the speakers needed to be 'moved' to the new house in the Google Home app. I've since adjusted this setting and the announcements now work. Thank you

Hi @lclift61,

Thank you for the update. I'm glad to know you were able to fix this.

A tip for this scenario is to remove, reset, and add back your devices to the app every time you move to a different location.

Let me know if you have any more questions.

Regards,

Anders

I would definitely do it that way next time (hopefully not for a few years). I plugged them in and because the Wifi network was the same (same modem) it seemed like everything was working but in future I would start a fresh with all devices in the Home app. Thanks again.
