Voltage for Nest doorbell

I’m having trouble getting the correct voltage at the doorbell for my Nest wired doorbell. I was only reading 6V at the doorbell so I replaced the transformer with a new 16v model. I read 16V coming from the transformer to the chime, but am still reading 6V at the doorbell. Can the chime mechanism itself be causing this problem? There doesn’t seem to be much to the chime so I didn’t think it could. be causing a voltage drop. But I could be wrong!

Hi idickers,

Thank you for posting in the community. I'm sorry that you get a low voltage between your Nest Wired Doorbell and chime. I understand how frustrating this can be. I'm here to help.

Here are some recommendations to test your Nest Wired Doorbell installation:

  • Depending on the chime, you need to follow the recommendation about the voltage of your chime, if this is an electronic chime or mechanical chime.
  • For mechanical chime here is the suggested labels:

For more details about installation, you can check our Nest Wired Installation video for more steps.

If you need more assistance regarding the voltage about the transformer and chime, you should contact any technical pro installer who can help check your wiring installation.

Let me know if you have any further questions.

Regards,

Byron
