Weatherproof cable difficult to install through outdoor wall

Are there any suggestions for pushing the outdoor camera weatherproof cable through a brick wall? I am replacing a camera that was PoE, so for the previous camera it was super easy to push ethernet through the existing hole. However, for the Google outdoor camera, the plug that attaches to the camera is exceedingly difficult to get through an outdoor wall. I tried a fish tape and failed. I made the hole much bigger but looks like it needs to be about one-half inch in order to get the small power connector through. I am connecting to a power outlet on the inside of the home, but the small power connector needs to get through the sheetrock and the brick wall. I assume it needs to be a half inch wide at least?

Hi falcon,

Thanks for posting in the community!

I'm so sorry to hear that you're having trouble pushing your Nest Camera's weatherproof cable through the outdoor wall. Don't worry; I'm here to help! Just to get started, I have a quick question for you. Can you please help me answer it?

  • What's your Nest Camera's model (Nest Cam (battery), Nest Cam IQ Outdoor, or Nest Cam Outdoor)?

In the meantime, if you have any further questions, please don’t hesitate to reply to this post. I'll be happy to assist you further!

Best regards,

Nery.

The camera model is the Nest Cam Outdoor with battery. There is a link on that page that refers to the weatherproof cable and it is pictured, however, the wiring is hidden behind an eave in the picture. It is very difficult to get through an exterior brick wall because the power cable is not standard and needs more than a half inch of clearance. I have already spent a few hours on this project and have still failed. It is regrettable because the IQ camera only required a POE cable, which is very easy to pull through a wall. I own an IQ camera outdoors and it still works well after several years. This new battery model, however, is very difficult to work with and the battery does not last long, so I opted to keep it hardwired to a power source on the inside of the house.
