Still no announcements from Google on this, unfortunately. You'd find out here and on their social channels.

It's only officially sold and supported in these countries:
Learn about devices & services available in your region - Google Store Help

Google Nest products are optimized to work best with specific Wi-Fi standards depending on where they are sold. This means if you buy a product that's not designed for your country, it may not work as expected, or may not work at all.

is there any reason why, is it not GDPR compliant, is it on a radio frequency band thats not permitted in the EU?

Why would an international company do a global product launch event and include a product limited to only the North Americas and not make it clear that it is a regional limited launch? I've been holding off buying a google/nest door bell thinking that the gen 2 is just round the corner and just waiting some sort of regional hardware / software tweak.
The lack of information and transparency is not only insulting but genuinely damaging to the brand, I have the full Google Ecosystem, am a superfan and have no other choice now this years made by google event has past with still no doorbell launch for EU, to buy a third party doorbell. Doesn't look very loyal or super fan like, but literally forced to do so by google/nests behaviours.

Honestly, we'd just be making assumptions. On the topic of Wi-Fi bands, the 5 GHz band is regulated differently around the world. Nest products manufactured for use in the USA use the 5 GHz channel in a way that is not allowed in the EU and UK. Nest products manufactured for use in the EU and UK use a different 5 GHz channel, so it's not like that's an issue that hasn't already been overcome.

I appreciate you're trying to be helpful but it's just exactly my point, why are we left to make assumptions or just plain in the dark?

Just a bit of information of if it is permanently regionally locked, if they're working on it, and if they're working on it what "it" is, would be all it takes... Just poor customer engagement/service.
