White Glare during the day

We have a Nest Camera with Floodlight, as soon as it starts to get light out or the sun comes out, the video feed goes all white, as if there is a glare, so you can not see anything until later in the afternoon. Could be a sensor or the floodlight? Its almost like the floodlight is staying on but we have the settings set to only come on when there is motion.

@Denise1368

Do you by any chance have "Night vision" (under Settings | Video) set to "Always on"? If so, set it to "Auto (default)".

Hi folks,

@Denise1368, thanks for reaching out to the Community. I wanted to check in and see if you still need any help. Have you seen MplsCustomer’s response above? If yes, how was it?

If you haven’t done so already, let’s reset the Night Vision settings.

  1. Open the Google Home app.
  2. Tap Favorites or Devices .
  3. Tap and hold your device's tile More More menu Settings .
  4. Tap Video.
  5. Under Night Vision, toggle the Off button, then turn it back on.

Also, check that the outdoor light sources don’t shine into the camera lens. In some cases, bright lights can delay or prevent the camera from switching to or from Night Vision.

Keep me posted.

Thanks for the assistance, MplsCustomer.

All the best,

Lance

Hi, I'm having this same issue, and at night the camera is way too dark. We've had the camera for almost a year and this issue just started a few days ago so it's not a placement issue. I already tried turning the camera on and off as well as the night vision thing and neither of those work.

Hi psychedx0ut,

Yikes! I'm sorry to hear that you're also experiencing issues with your camera's nighttime visibility. Dark or poor-quality video during nighttime can be frustrating, but here are some steps you can try (you may skip the ones you already did):

  1. Ensure that there are no physical obstructions such as dirt, dust, or debris covering the camera lens. Clean the lens carefully using a soft, lint-free cloth if necessary.
  2. Some cameras have adjustable settings for nighttime visibility. Check if your camera has a specific night vision mode or settings that you can adjust to improve the image quality during low-light conditions.
  3. While you mentioned that you don't think it's a placement issue, it's still worth considering if anything has changed in the camera's environment. Ensure that there are no new sources of light that could be affecting the camera's performance or causing excessive glare.
  4. Check if there are any available firmware updates for your camera model. Keeping the firmware up to date can sometimes resolve performance issues and improve overall camera functionality.

Let us know how it goes.

Best,

Zoe

There is nothing a Google Nest customer can do to obtain "any available firmware updates" for ANY Google Nest device. Google Nest pushes out updates when Google Nest wants to. Customer have commented and complained about this for years.

Hi there,

@MplsCustomer, I apologize if my previous response was not clear. You are correct that Google Nest devices receive firmware updates when Google determines it is necessary. As a Google Nest customer, you do not have direct control over when firmware updates are pushed to your devices.

Google typically rolls out firmware updates in a phased manner to ensure stability and compatibility across their device ecosystem. These updates can include bug fixes, feature enhancements, security improvements, and other optimizations. While you cannot manually trigger firmware updates for your Google Nest devices, it's important to keep your devices connected to the internet and ensure they are running the latest version of the Nest app. This will allow your devices to receive and install any available updates when they become available.

@psychedx0ut, I want to check if you managed to see my suggestions above. Please let me know if you have any questions from here. I would be happy to assist and make sure you are good to go.

Thanks,

Zoe
