Why won't my Nest doorbell connect to my Nest app?

I just got the new Nest Doorbell. I already have the Nest Thermostat and an Indoor Nest camera - I access both through the Nest app because I find it much easier to use than Google Home. However, when I try to "add a product," meaning my new Nest (battery) doorbell, to the Nest app, it prompts me to add it through Google Home. After about 30 mins of trying to add it to my Nest app, I gave up because we've been moving and I didn't want to spend hours trying to figure out how to get it on my Nest app that already has my other two cameras. It's been a few days of using Google Home, and I absolutely HATE IT. I find it extremely annoying - it takes forever to load, it doesn't alert you as well as the Nest app does, it's just overall less user friendly. I'm also having to use TWO separate applications for the same exact brand... I'm sure I can move my thermostat and indoor nest camera over to the Google Home app, but I've been reluctant to because I just don't like using it. I'm hoping there is some roundabout way to add the Nest doorbell to the Nest app. Google, if you're reading this, PLEASE allow users to add their NEST DOORBELLS to the NEST app. Not everyone wants to use the Google Home app.

Unfortunately, you have discovered the hard way what the rest of us customers who have purchased any of the new Google Nest cameras and doorbells released in the fall of 2021 have also discovered. These new Google Nest cameras and doorbells--by design--only work in the Google Home app and--surprisingly--do NOT work in the Google Nest app or on home.nest.com.  (You can see old cameras and doorbells in the Google Home app but you can't configure them or view their history there.)

You can find Google's perspective on this in these blogs on this forum, along with customer reactions. (I'm just another Google Nest customer.)

Thank you so much for your prompt response, MplsCustomer! Wow, this is so beyond frustrating. I will be switching over to Ring. I've only used the Nest (battery) doorbell for 3 days and can already tell that they've changed for the worse. It picks up maybe 5 events a day (I'm not sure if this is the battery feature or if that's just how it is with all new doorbell cams), there is no 24/7 recording, when it finally alerts me that someone is at my door, it's too late - i miss it completely and then have to struggle to view the history. All and all, not happy with this purchase. Such a bummer, Google! Glad to see that others feel this same way.

Hi Sarahnoland12,  As MplsCustomer said it was a hugh shock to MANY. You can see this by reading post after post on this forum going back months.    I tried some of the other manufacturers cameras and none of them have an app that is as good as the NEST APP.  So for me I ended up returning the new nest cams and just purchased some used previous-generation cams from eBay and I'm a happy camper.
