Our ring doorbell stopped working after four years. We attempted several times to restart it and re-add it to the account with no luck. Any other troubleshooting tips?

@AMint44

What doorbell do you actually have?

The Ring Doorbell does not work with the Google Nest app.

The 1st gen Google Nest Hello Doorbell works with the Google Nest app.

The 2nd gen Google Nest Doorbell indicated in your post works with the Google Home app.

You can find factory reset instructions for Google Nest cameras and doorbells here (after the "Restart" instructions):

We have the 1st gen Google Nest Doorbell that uses the Nest app. The light around the doorbell button is not on but the top light is solid green currently. Sometimes the top light is a flashing green. We cannot seem to get the factory reset to to work because I don't think the doorbell button is working. We are also not able to get the doorbell to connect to WiFi

Hello AMint44,

Thank you so much for keeping me updated. It is a pleasure to be able to assist you.

Please follow the steps to restore your device to its original settings successfully.

  • To remove your doorbell from its base, insert the release tool into the hole at the bottom of your doorbell. You can also use an unfolded paperclip or a thumbtack. Note: Don't unscrew the wires attached to the back of your camera.
  • Hold down two buttons on your doorbell for about 10 seconds.
  • Hold down the reset pin on the back (insert the release tool or paperclip into the hole near the top).
  • At the same time, hold down the big doorbell button on the front.
  • Your doorbell will chime, its light ring will spin blue, then flash yellow, and all the lights will turn off. Release the two buttons.
  • The factory reset is complete when your camera chimes and the light ring starts slowly pulsing blue.
  • After a factory reset, your doorbell will appear as "Offline" in the app until you remove it and re-add it.
  • To remove it from the app, open the app, then tap Settings. Nest settings icon: Remove the device. Confirm.

Let me know how it goes.

Best regards,

 Daniel
