camera not functioning properly

My camera has stopped sending me notifications when it detects people. Occasionally, totally at random, it sends me a few. Besides this issue, which makes it completely useless, I can't even activate it with a voice command or an automation, even though it's supposed to work that way. The response from Google Home is simply "I can't do that."

I'm having the same issues with my Nest Indoor Cameras not activating using voice commands / automation.  However I can turn them on/off manually using the Google Home app.  What make the situation even more frustrating that all the steps that support has given me to try to fix the issue have not worked.  At this point, I'm convinced that Google has broken something on their end with their servers, and they don't realize.

I have not heard back yet from the first form that I filled out.

Hi me88,

Thanks for reaching out to our community.

I’m sorry to hear that your camera has stopped sending you notifications when it detects people. I understand how frustrating it is to receive a few notifications occasionally, totally at random. Thank you for letting us know that you can’t even activate it with a voice command or automation. No worries, help is here.

Before I start further troubleshooting, let me ask you a few questions:

  • Could you please confirm the model of your Nest camera?
  • Is your Nest cam wired or battery powered?
  • When did the issue start?
  • Did you receive any notifications in the past?
  • Do you have a Nest Aware subscription?
  • Were there any changes to the Wi-Fi network?
  • Do you use email or push notifications?
  • Are there other family members who can access the Nest camera? Do they receive any notifications?
  • Has the Nest camera been moved recently?
  • Are there any activity zones set up for the camera?
  • Are you using the Nest app or Google Home app to set up your camera?
  • Is your Nest camera firmware up to date?
  • What is the distance between your Nest cam and the router?
  • Is your Nest camera currently linked to a 2.4 or 5 GHz WiFi network?
  • Could you please double-check if the automation created doesn't interfere with another one?

Thanks for your kind attention; I will be looking forward to your answer.

Best regards,

Virna
