doorbell camera lens scratched

Hi, I purchased a Google Nest doorbell camera about half a year ago. It worked fine when I installed it. However, I noticed the other day that the picture generated by the camera was very blurry. Upon further inspection, I thought that maybe someone got some glue on the lens or some other substance. Then, upon further investigation, I could see that it was scratched directly in the middle of the lens. It looked like it had been stabbed, possibly 2 or 3 times. I'm not sure who would do such a thing, and now I'm without the security of the front door camera, and ...I'm wondering, if I replace it, will it happen again? Is there anything I can do about this?
