how can I get a notification per event from google home?

Hi,

How can I shortern the time between notifications?

I’ve experienced getting notifications within intervals of around 15-20 minutes, even if several events happened in between.

Is there any option to get a notification for each event?

I’m using the cam as a baby monitor and getting notified when the event happens is important.

Thanks

There is no configuration involved in the "cooldown" period.

I'm not an expert, but it seems there has to be some sort of "cooldown" period just so the camera can determine what constitutes an "event". I don't think we'd want 20 notifications in 30 seconds if someone waved 20 times in front of the doorbell camera.

Google Nest provided the following answer to a question on Amazon in June 2021:

"In general, Nest cameras have up to 10 minutes cooldown period for Person alerts, and up to 30 minutes cooldown period for Motion alerts. Cooldown period is for sending alerts only, there’s no cooldown period for activity detection. Because Nest attempts to send the right number of alerts at the right times, the camera will trigger a short cooldown period each time a notification is sent.

Nest strives to give our customers only the most important information, when it’s important. Because of that, the length of the cooldown period fluctuates according to our research on what our customers find useful and important. Your camera may notify you when it first detects activity, but it shouldn’t send additional notifications as the activity continues. While the duration of the cooldown period can vary by alert type (person, sound, motion, etc.), the behavior remains the same."

Hi cynicsound,

Thank you for posting. I'm really sorry for the inconvenience that you have to not receive the notifications on time.

There is an good article you can review to verify the options and troubleshoot the issue with notifications: Camera alerts.

I hope this helps.

Byron

Hi,

Thanks for the quick reply and the understanding.

I’ve been through the troubleshooting already, the challenge is that I want home app to alert me for every time it identifies an event, unfortunately there seems to be some logic built-in that decides on my behalf whether the event is critical or not, that’s what I want to override, I need all events to be notified, whether they are or not important to the app.

Thanks again!

Google Nest's cameras and doorbells all have some sort of non-configurable "cooldown" period, which prevents a second (or third) event notification shortly after an event was detected. If you have a Nest Aware Plus subscription, the subsequent events are recorded, even though no notification is sent.

A couple of years ago, a Google Nest Community Specialist posted a chart on this forum of the "cooldown" periods for each type of camera and doorbell, but Google Nest deleted the post shortly thereafter.

Also, in our experience, our Google Nest cameras and doorbells sometimes do not detect an event for no apparent reason, but the event is recorded because we have a Nest Aware Plus subscription.

Hi,

So you are saying there is no way to get a notification per recorded event?

It’d be quite simple having an option to deactivate such logic, which in my case is making the product not useful, too bad I’m not entitled to a return now.

Hi,

I’m talking about a notification per recorded event, it should be straight forward to add an option to either get a notification per recorded event, that usually last for over a min (so no 20 notifications in 30 sec, maybe 20-30 in an hour worst case) or have that smart option instead.

But anyway, I have accepted the google cam is not the right device for baby monitoring, too bad, as it’s quite good quality and the software is almost there, just needs this and a feature to keep the device streaming when the app is in the bg.

Anyway, big thanks for your comments and help!

Hi cynicsound,

Thank you for posting. Also, you can try to change the notification settings and manage your Google Home app notifications. There is an article with that specific option, This might help isolate the issue.

Hi Byron,

Thanks for trying to help, however I cannot find that option in google home.

Is it different with the Nest app?
