iOS notifications disappear for Google Home cameras

Dave_D_W

Hi,

i *think* this issue started with iOS17 beta, but even now with the RC version the problem persists.

The notifications do get sent and I’ll even see them flash up on my phone, but then they’ll just vanish, they aren’t even available when you swipe up on the lock screen to see the history.

The weird thing is, it doesn’t happen on all notifications, but I’d say at a guess 90% of them.

This happens for a battery doorbell and two battery cams, the old gen 1 indoor camera on the Nest platform is unaffected.

Any help appreciated!

App version: 3.6.104

Dave.

We have two iOS 17 devices in our home and both have the issue repeatedly.

Totally agree with your summary. It effectively cripples the utility of the product and means nest aware has no value. Yet google don’t even acknowledge the problem. Unbelievable that their customer service is this poor.

Just bought 2 wireless Google cams and the notifications are inconsistent. Sometimes an event is notified, sometimes the subsequent event is not.  I have little patience for flaky behavior, cams are being returned.

I thought I was going nuts - this is happening to me to. I'm a single mum and this 'was' helping me feel safe. But now I cannot see any notifications, and don't know if my children are safe home from school, or when foxes are prowling in my garden (true story). Please can we have a resolution ASAP - I've tried everything.

I was the same. I did everything I could to get it working but no luck at all. Until I saw your valued in dept review, MplsCustomer.

Let's hope to see they manage to fix the issue soon

Jenelyn_O  Can you please let us know on this thread about what's going on?

Thanks.

@NestUserEdwardo

Since this past Saturday, notifications are no longer disappearing for us.  They'll remain for hours unless we dismiss them.

Is there anything you did? I’m going crazy and looking into how to revert back to IOS 16

noticed that with IOS 17, Google home outside camera notifications have been either disappearing before getting a chance to even open them or also even not getting pushed through to your phone so you’ll have no idea someone is waiting at your door or a package was delivered so it’ll just wait outside. This was never an issue before I got that dang update last weekend

@Deejaytb

No changes at all. It was working before upgrading to iOS 17 today and is still working after the update.

I need some of that magic over here  I will get about 1/3 of the notifications if something happens. But before I updated it I got sent a notification every time the camera picked something up  now I gotta check for what it didn’t send out

Bad form that Google have yet to acknowledge this…

I can’t believe that after so much time the issue is still there and annoying.
I want to stress that we are not only talking about disappearing notifications but also about preview not working on those few notifications not disappearing.
at this point there is not added value to buy nest cameras.

you would expect google to be great on the software side…. Instead it’s getting terrible

sad to say but you’re right I’ve been looking into either seeing if the camera will work with the Nest app and just use that for the time being or just getting rid of the Google camera and going with a competitor. It seems like a simple fix in my opinion but I don’t make apps so my 2 cents don’t matter in that regard

@Deejaytb

You cannot use the Google Nest app for cameras that are installed in the Google Home app.

Now this issue is even more annoying to me.

This may not be of any help at all, but these are the Notification settings I have in iOS 17 for the Google Home app (where Notifications are appearing and NOT disappearing):

Allow Notifications: ON

Time Sensitive Notifications: ON

Alerts: Lock Screen, Notification Center, and Banners are all checked

Banner Style: Temporary

Sounds: ON

Badges: ON

Show Previews: Always (Default)

Notification Grouping: Automatic

(I can't attach a screen capture; Google Nest seems to have photo attachments turned off in this forum.)

Honestly you should think about working for Google thanks for the app help I’ll see if this works for me. * fingers crossed *

Bit of an update, having upgraded my phone to a new iPhone 15 Pro Max, my alerts now work again on this new phone, however still broken on my wifes phone.

Feels like this is can be a device specific issue, as I haven't changed any config at all as I did the regular iPhone setup of getting it to copy over the data from my previous phone / iCoud account.

Thanks for the update Dave. Still ongoing for me and my wife. I have to say this is so frustrating. Google are so bad at acknowledging issues. I get it’s a large company but Jesus it’s one of their flagship products.

Still having issues here on 2 devices….

Question for those having issues, do you have a smart watch that alerts go to?

Now mine is *mostly* fixed, I notice that when my Apple Watch gets the alerts with a display pop up on the screen, i don't get those on the phone..

Wondering if the issue is somehow linked

No watch here…

There seems to be no pattern as to why this is so broken, be much easier if there was

Cheatar

Yeah. And I can’t even screen record to show them disappearing because you can’t record the Lock Screen.

Friend or partner have a phone? Bit of a noddy way of doing it, but if it helps draw some conclusion to this.

I thought of that but then remembered this forum doesn’t allow attachments 😫

It’s like shouting out a window this forum. Don’t know why Google bother with it 🤷‍♂️

I am also having notifications issues with the new IOS 17 update. Not sure if the problem originates from google app or apple but there is a problem with app function on the IOS update. I still get the notifications just fine but the issue for me is that I can not preview the clip (long press hold). Very frustrating as I use that 95% of the time instead of going into the google app.

Could be worse - I have this problem *and* the disappearing notifications.  Awesome experience here.

Could be completely anecdotal but I seemed to have the “preview problem” and then it progressed to the notifications vanishing quickly!

Am I the only one with this problem still - after multiple re-installs?

Dave_D_W

Think most people still have it who had it in the first place.

Mine is better with my new phone, but I still don't get all of them, found that if they pull up a full preview on my watch, even if I don't press that, it doesn't arrive on my phone.

Still completely broken on my wifes phone.

Likewise. Got an Arlo wireless cam. So far, zero issues. I scrapped this Google junk. Customer service and fixing issues is a huge fail.

Like even an acknowledgment that this is something they’re working on would be sufficient. But nothing.

Still broken on my side too- not even getting the poxy door bell notifications when rung. Absolute farce.

I have an iPhone SE, iOS 17.1.2, most recently updated Google Home app.  Sometime around the updating of either the iOS or the Google Home app, when my one battery-powered Google doorbell triggers a motion alert, I hear a sound (which has changed on its own, by the way), see the notification pop up for about a second and then disappear as if I got rid of it, without having interacted with the phone at all.  The notification is no longer anywhere in my Notifications Center on the locked screen or elsewhere.  The only way to view the motion event is to open the Google Home app and check that way, very tedious and takes forever to load.
