Bluetooth connection freeze

I can link many different bluetooth (BT) earbuds to my Chromecast with Google TV (CCwGTV), but not my new "OnePlus Buds Pro 2" (OPBP2). They link to my phone fine. But each time on the CCwGTV it finds the device, then asks if I want to pair (naming the device correctly), and then says pairing, then it says "Couldn't pair"...but the "Searching for accessories" screen stays running and I can't get the CCwGTV to respond to my remote. It will respond to my phone using the Google home app, but I can't use the remote. I can't get it to pair with the remote until I reset the CCwGTV.  I've the CCwGTV forget the other BT earbuds I've linked and tried again with the OPBP2s, and same thing. the CCwGTV always get stuck at the last step and says "Couldn't pair". When I go back to the pairing screen with my phone remote, it shows the OPBP2s and says "disconnected" underneath, but will not pair it just give options to Rename or Forget. on the right side, but highlighting the OPBP2s makes the phone remote lock up and I can't select (or more to the right or left. So I reset the CCwGTV, and the same thing always happens. Any ideas...please, anyone??

Hey there murphy3000,

I apologize for the late response, and thank you for being patient! Were you able to fix that Bluetooth connection issue? If not, I'd be happy to help you out. First, make sure that both your Chromecast and OnePlus Buds are up-to-date on their firmware. Then, go ahead and factory reset your OnePlus Buds to clear out any cached data and see if they connect fine afterwards.

I look forward to your response, and if you have any other questions or concerns for me, please let me know.

Best regards,
Jeran

Yes, I have tried that. OnePlus said the same thing, but it didn't work. I wrote them back and they emailed me a few days ago that "there might be a compatibility issue with the Google Tv In order to pair with the OnePlus Buds pro 2. We have already escalated this issue with the higher team, please be assured it will be fixed In the next update." No telling how long that might take. Today I checked again and the Buds have an update, but after that they still fail to completely connect and my Chromecasts hangs (all the same  as described above) and has to be reset. But because the Buds almost paired, they are in the list still and I can't get the Chromecast "forget" option to work, nor can I repair the remote and I have to factory reset my Chromecast. And a Factory Reset wipes all the data, like app sign'ins. So frustrating.

I have exactly the same problem!

When I am trying to sync my ( Nothing Ear (1) ), the CCwGTV freezes in the Bluetooth Pairing Request screen ( here: https://prnt.sc/zNoymx303kSD ), not allowing me to Pair or Cancel (can't even choose a button). I can only go back.

The only solution that I've found to be able to sync my earbuds was by doing a Factory Reset of the CCwGTVa and then pairing them up immediately.

The problem is that after doing the Factory Reset, there is no option to re-install all previous APPS and set them up as they were before. (Feature-Request: This could be saved in the Google Drive storage for later use like in this case.) And some times, the earbuds just lose pairing, and when I try to pair them up again, I can no longer do it again and have to Factory Reset again....

I just found out that if I use a mouse to press the Pair button, it will work. It's the Remote that doesn't allow you to press it!

I really don't follow your answer. I don't have a mouse hooked up to my Chromecast (CC) on my TV, I just have the CC remote. Sure I could use my Android phone Home app has a remote substitute and I've tried that but it doesn't keep the pairing function from freezing up and forcing me to reset my Chromecast.

Detailing in new words:

My CCwGTV freezes in the Bluetooth Pairing Request screen when I try to pair my earbuds.  I cannot press any button ("Pair" or "Cancel") with my remote. The remote only allows me to go back.

I just found out that if I plug in a mouse using a USB HUB, I can press the Pair button and finally pair my earbuds.

Sounds like yours is locking up just the way my two Chromecast do whenever I try to pair the latest OnePlus earbuds. Seems to be the problem is with Google's software.

Thanks much made for the replies and I followed all the links. I realize now we don't have the same problem. I can totally select the pair button and it finds the buds and starts pairing but never completes pairing. And my remote gets locked up...  I can back out of it with the remote application on my phone, but Chromecast isn't fully functional and I have to do a restart and when I restart it it opens on the "trying to pair screen" still and there's no way out but to do a full factory reset. I can pair with other Bluetooth devices but not with these oneplus buds pro 2.

Thank you for helping out on this thread, deskompt!

Hey there murphy3000,

I'm just checking up on this thread again, and I am sorry about the slow response times. In this case, let's try connecting those buds while the Chromecast is in safe mode. Here are the steps on how to enable safe mode on the Chromecast with Google TV:

  1. Press and hold the power button on your Chromecast until it turns off.
  2. Once your Chromecast is off, press and hold the power button again until you see the Google logo appear.
  3. Once you see the Google logo, release the power button.
  4. Your Chromecast will now boot up in safe mode.

Once you are in safe mode, try connecting those OnePlus Buds once again. To exit safe mode, simply restart your Chromecast.

I look forward to hearing from you again.

Best regards,
Jeran

Thanks so much for following up. I just gave that a try three times in a row and I can't get my Chromecast to reboot in safe mode. I did make sure that I was only turning off the Chromecast and not the TV as well but it's still won't go into safe mode. It just shuts off after I've held the power button for a long time. And when I press and hold it again it starts up without going to the Google logo just straight to the home screen  After After trying that a few more times I gave up and I tried connecting the earbuds again for the first time in many weeks... And it worked! All I can figure is that the latest update on the Chromecast (last week I think) included some tweaks to their Bluetooth pairing code.

I just went to my other TV and the earbuds paired right away with that Chromecast too so clearly Google has updated their Bluetooth code. Yay!
