Bluetooth freezing while pairing

I'm trying to pair a bluetooth device and the bluetooth subsystem seems to crash when I do that. The remote stops working and the whole chrimecast needs to be restarted for me to use the remote again. When I tried the remote app on Google home, that is still working but the BT stuff isn't. When I try to forget the BT device that it was pairing, it won't let me do that.

This is after a factory reset already, which is why I'm trying to pair it again. The device was paired and working before this, but I did a factory reset because recently the chromecast was complaining about no internet connection occasionally and I have it wired to my network. I figured I'd give a factory reset a shot and now it's made things worse and I'm not sure yet if it even fixed the Chromecast complaining about the internet connection yet.

Hey taraba,

Thanks for reaching out to the Chromecast Community forum and for providing detailed information about your issue and the steps that you've done — these are of great help!

To cover all the bases, could you please tell us the make and model of the Bluetooth device you're pairing to the Chromecast with Google TV (4K)? Were you able to pair it previously to the Chromecast with Google TV (4K) or this is the first time pairing your device? In the meantime, please try the additional steps listed below:

  1. Turn off the Bluetooth device and then turn it back on. After the reboot, try pairing again.
  2. Unplug your TV for 10 seconds and then plug it back in. Once the TV is on, try pairing it again.
  3. Check if the Bluetooth device pairs with other devices (Example: Phone or tablet).

Let me know how it goes.

Best,

Jennifer

It's a Logitech Harmony Elite remote. Yes, it was already paired before I did the factory reset.

I was able to get this to work and not freeze by following the steps here which involves adding the remote as different device first and then pairing the remote again

Hello there,

That's cool! Glad to hear that your devices are working now and thanks for keeping me in the loop. Let me know if you still have questions and concerns otherwise, I'll be locking this thread after 24 hours.

Best,

Jennifer

Oh. I guess I probably made a mistake sharing that part then. It seems like there's a bug in the code and someone else had found a way to work around it. Shouldn't it be escalated instead of having the thread locked? Is the Bluetooth remote locking up when you try to pair a different device "working as designed"? I mean, if the device is incompatible, which apparently this one is compatible because it works now, then I would expect that it handles the problem gracefully with a message and doesn't need to have the plug pulled to get back on track

Hello taraba,

I understand and we appreciate you sharing your thoughts and experience about the device. You can connect several Bluetooth devices like headphones or game controllers to your Chromecast with Google TV. However, please take note that you can only connect one audio device at a time.

We highly suggest you send feedback about this via Google TV as every bit of feedback helps a ton.

Regards,

Jennifer
