Cahromecast Audio 2 not recognized by Google Home

SkipTowne

For several years my Chromecast audio (2nd gen) worked fine - I could cast from Pandora etc.  Now, either because apps change or I started using Google home to control my Nest thermostats - I cannor connect to the Chromecast.

I've followed all the general tips I could find - including:

  1. reboot phone (Samsung S10 running Android 11)
  2. reboot choromecast
  3. factory reset of chromecast
  4. followed Home "Add new device" procedures - which work after the chromecast factory reset - right up to the last step of connecting.  Home says setup was sucessful but Home cannot connect.
  5. Chromecast LED Status (steady white) shows it is connected to wifi
  6. Wifi router confirms chromecast is a connected device
  7. Confirmed phone and chromecast are both on the same wifi network
  8. Confirmed wifi sharing setting are correct (PnP and something else)

What else can I do?

Hi SkipTowne,

Sorry to hear that you are having an issue reconnecting your Chromecast Audio to your network, but thanks for being a step ahead of us.

Please try to reboot your WiFi router and uninstall and reinstall the Google Home app. Also, if you are using a Samsung S10 running on android 11, please turn off the network switching or adaptive Wi-Fi feature on your phone. Using a different mobile phone might also help.

Keep me posted.

Thanks,

Jennifer

Hi there,

How's it going with your Chromecast Audio? Did those steps help?

Thanks,

Jennifer

No, these steps did not help, I get the same error message: Chromecast Audio was set up successfully but cannot be found,

Summary of step taken:

- I Rebooted wifi again
- I uninstalled and reinstalled Google Home
 - I searched Settings and was not able to find any settings that correlate to your suggestions to  turn off the network switching or adaptive Wi-Fi feature
 - Buying a new phone in support of the theory it might make Chromecast work is a stretch I am not willing to make.

Any other hope?

I did find instructions for turning on/off wifi, cellular switching which is called asaptive networks on Samsung help page.  This did not help.

Hi SkipTowne,

Sorry for the late response. Quick question — are there any recent changes in your WiFi network?

I know you've already reset the Chromecast, but please try to reset it again and manually connect your phone to the Chromecast SSID. Here's how: Go to the phone’s Settings > Open Wi-Fi and connect to the Chromecast SSID (Example: Chromecast1234, Living Room TV, Bedroom TV, etc.) > Go to the Google Home app and try to set up again.

Let me know how it goes.

Thanks,

Jennifer

I did as instructed, and was able to connect to the Chromecast SSID during setup.

I went through the process to set up and connect and ended with the same error message:
"Chromecast set up successfully, but Google Home cannot connect"

Hey there SkipTowne,

This error could be due to Access Point (AP) isolation being enabled, Universal Plug and Play (UPnP) disabled, Virtual Private Network (VPN) enabled, or IGMP disabled. Either that, or maybe your Chromecast Audio was set up on one network band, such as 2.4GHz network, and the phone is connected to another, such a 5GHz.

So, check out these Router settings:

  • Multicast, Universal Plug and Play (UPnP), and Internet Group Management Protocol (IGMP) must be enabled.
  • If customer is running Domain Name System (DNS) software, enable the following public Google DNS IP addresses: 8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4.

Device settings:

  • Disable or disconnect any Virtual Private Network (VPN) software.

Let me know if that help, if not, it may be settings on the phone itself having trouble connecting to the Chromecast Audio.

Best regards,

Jeran
