Can't access Chromecast settings in home app.

In the home app, I cannot access settings for any of my devices. This includes a Chromecast ultra, 1st gen, and 2nd gen.

When I select a device in the home app there is no settings cog in the top right. There is only the three dots. In the three dots, there is ambient mode settings, help, and feedback.

I have found a solution which is as follows. Turn off the WiFi. When the Chromecast becomes unavailable the cog is now there. Click the cog. Turn on the WiFi and reload the settings page.

While this does work, I want to avoid having to do a little song and dance every time I wish to make a change to the settings. Is there a more permanent solution?

Hey there AdamFraser,

I apologize about the late response, thank you for being patient! I'm glad to hear you found a work-around, but I can imagine that gets to be pretty frustrating. There are a few things we can try that may fix this issue:

  1. Make sure the Google Home app is up-to-date.
  2. Force stop the Google Home application, and reboot the Phone.
  3. Clear out Google Home's cached data.
  4. Uninstall and re-install Google Home.

Hi again, sorry for the delayed response.

Unfortunately, after trying all of your suggestions the problem still persists. Something else I have tried is using a different account on a different device connected to the same home but the problem is still there. Are there any other suggestions?

Hey there AdamFraser,

 

No problem at all! I was able to recreate this issue on my end, but only while having a VPN enabled on my mobile device. Are you using a VPNs on your devices while you are trying to connect? Disconnecting from the Wi-Fi disconnected my VPN, allowing those settings to show up.
