I appreciate the steps & help from everyone, but it wasn’t restricted in my YouTube app; and I couldn’t find it in my GoogleHome app, so I reset my Google cast and that did the trick.
Thank you again!

Hi @ElleR2

Even though the YouTube app on your phone doesn't have restricted mode enabled, it might be turned on for Chromecast itself. Here's how to check and disable it:

  1. Open the Google Home App: This app manages Chromecast devices.
  2. Locate your Chromecast: Look for the Chromecast you want to adjust in the Home app.
  3. Access Settings: Tap and hold the Chromecast icon, then tap the Settings cog icon.
  4. Find YouTube Settings: Navigate to the "YouTube settings" section within the Chromecast settings.
  5. Disable Restricted Mode: Look for an option titled "Use Restricted Mode" or "Restrict content on YouTube TV" (depending on the app version). Make sure it's turned off.

Additional Tips:

  • Restart Chromecast: Sometimes a simple restart can resolve glitches. Unplug your Chromecast for a minute, then plug it back in.
  • Check Multiple Users: If others use the Chromecast, ensure restricted mode isn't enabled on their YouTube accounts.
  • Cast from Chrome Browser: Try casting YouTube directly from the Chrome browser on your PC/laptop. This can help isolate if the issue is with the Chromecast or the YouTube app on your phone.

By following these steps, you should be able to disable restricted mode on your Chromecast and cast YouTube content normally.

Mario.

I have a similar question. I don't seem to find the restricted mode toggle on the YouTube website.

Hello @ElleR2,

Thanks for reaching out to the community, and I also thank you for posting about casting YouTube. I definitely understand your concern about your problem with YouTube, but here I am sending you some steps to follow below.

Restricted mode settings for Chromecast are actually controlled through the Google Home app, not the Chromecast itself. Here's how to turn it off:

  1. Open the Google Home app on your phone or tablet.
  2. Touch and hold the tile for your Chromecast device.
  3. Tap the settings cog in the corner.
  4. Navigate to Notifications & digital wellbeing.
  5. Under that section, select YouTube settings.
  6. Look for the option "Use Restricted Mode". You'll likely see two settings here:
    • Restrict for me on this device
    • Restrict for unrecognized users on this device
  7. Turn off the toggle switch for whichever setting you want to adjust.
    • Choose "Restrict for me on this device" if you're the only one using the Chromecast and want unrestricted content.
    • Choose "Restrict for unrecognized users on this device" if you want to allow unrestricted content only when someone recognized by Google Home is casting.

This should disable Restricted Mode for YouTube content you cast to your Chromecast.

Regards,

Helio.

my question is about watching videos.

Hi @ElleR2,

You're welcome! It's good to know that resetting the Chromecast fixed the issue. Just as a heads up, Chromecast restrictions typically reside with the content provider, not the Youtube or Google Home app itself.

Mario.

Mario, may you explain what you mean by content provider? I didn’t use this chromecast for several months; this I’d when it has happened in past.
