Hi Everyone.
I just bought a chromecast, which i intend to use with both android and chrome browser, but cannot get through the setup.
i installed it all properly, and i get the welcome screen telling me to DL the app, so i have that. i linked the app to my google account and set up a home, with no issues. then i try to set up a chromecast.
at that stage, the chromecast resets itself and goes back to the welcome 'get the app' screen. and the phone tells me it can't communicate with the CC and goes back to the home scren as well.
when i try to cast from browser, it cannot find the chromecast. According to my home network the CC is connected to the wifi successfully.
any ideas what's going on here? i've tried resetting all devices multiple times, with no success.

Hey there Fletcher57,
When you changed your internet provider, did you factory reset the Chromecast device? The Chromecast can only remember one network at a time, so you'll either need to factory reset it, or forget the network in the Google Home app. I would be a bit nervous as well if my device didn't connect to the new network, but most of the time, the fix is just a factory reset!
I look forward to your response!
Best regards,
Jean

i have the same issue. Casting disappears regularly, and the devices refuse to find my Chromecast device when asked to. I have set my living room tv chromecast several times with a couple of laptops and a couple of androids. Every time, the Chromecast device disappears after a couple of days, and cannot be found. Is this a tactic, or Google's incompetence? One or the other.

This just happened to me. Isn't this technology supposed to get better, not worse?

I have been trying for days to reinstall my old Chromecast after changing my ISP but Google Home Ap can't locate the device! Google robots continue to send the same instructions but ignore my problems. Should I buy a cheaper Casting dongle? Can't be any worse than Google's.

I am having the same issue. Google Home App not locating the device. When I visit chrome cast.com/setup to set up with desktop or laptop I get a pop up to download the Google Home App.

I switched ISP and reset chrome cast to factory setting and am now stuck on the Welcome screen because Google Home App can't locate/recognize my device. How can I set up the chrome cast from my laptop?

Hey there LiSee,
I am sorry to say, but to set up the Chromecast device, you do have to use the Google Home app. If the Google Home app is not locating the device, check out this article on different things that could be affecting that.
Let me know if this helps!
Best regards,
Jeran
