Cannot play on audio group when casting video with chromecast ultra

Hi all

When I cast video (eg from Netflix) to my chromecast ultra connected to my projector I get both the video and the sound fine. But if I assign an audio group to the ultra I loose the sound.

I know the audio group works because I can cast Spotify music to it.

Any advices on how to fix this basic problem is greatly appreciated!

Ben

Hi Bjbladerunner,

Thanks for posting here in the Google Nest Community. We’re talking about the speaker group (audio group), where you can add multiple Nest speakers and displays, as well as Chromecast devices. You can cast audio/music intended apps, such as YouTube Music, Spotify, Pandora, etc., to this speaker group, and all of them will play simultaneously. When casting audio/music apps, which would require audio-coded formatted devices, it would accept all the speakers, displays, and Chromecast devices, considering everything can play audio in that speaker group. But it’s a different story now when you cast audio+video intended apps like Netflix, YouTube, Disney+, Prime Video, etc.

Creating a speaker group doesn’t divide the video into Chromecast and sound into speakers. This is a common misconception.

I hope this clarifies the confusion. Let us know if you need further help.

Thanks,

Kimy
