Cannot see chromecast on this wifi network. Both mobile and chromecast are connected in the same wif

I have reset factory settings from both chromecast and home app. The set up  completes but then it says it cannot see it on the wifi. I am using a 5G broadband modem. Disabled 5ghz network connected both to the 2.4ghz network default channels and it still cannot find after setup is complete. It works on an nbn network but not this one.

I am having same issue.

I only manage to make cast work is i use my phone as a hotspot for my wifi, then set up Chromecast on another phone.... Then as long as i turn on hotspot on my phone, i am able to cast and if other people log onto my hotspot they also can cast. But then i am not the main account connected to the setup, i am only a guest since someone else have to set it up.

Now i reset my Chromecast to try to make it work so i don't drain my battery on hotspot, but i am not able to, and i have to wait for someone to do it for me on my hotspot again if i can't get it fixed.

My neighbor who i share wifi with is able to use Chromecast... So i don't see why i shouldn't. I am not able to change anything on the router as it's in her apartment.

Hi folks,

Thanks for posting — let’s see what’s going on. A few questions: what phone are you both using (Android or iOS)? What Chromecast device are we working on? Also, what's the distance between the router and the Chromecast device? Try these steps and observe if it will make a difference.

  1. If your Chromecast device is plugged into a USB port, connect it directly to the power outlet so that it receives enough power and can be discovered by the Google Home app.
  2. Make sure location service is on.
  3. Check if the Chromecast device is within 15 to 20 feet of the setup device and the Wi-Fi router.
  4. From the setup device, turn Wi-Fi off then on.

Hi Juni,

I am using a chromecast gen 3. It works when connecting to my NBN network. Chromecast is connected directly to power supply. Sits next to router and I am using an Android.

I changed my internet to a 5G broadband modem/router WIFI6 wich uses a sim card rather than the network cables from the building. Google home app sees the chromecast but after finishing setup it just says cannot see chromecast in the same network.

I have read chromecast doesn't support 802.11 ax. And even I set the channel on the WIFI it thinks is connected to another network.

Thanks

Hi Papicool,

Got it. To isolate if this is network related, could you try setting up your Chromecast using a mobile hotspot? See the instructions below:

(You would need 2 mobile devices: 1st is for the Google Home app and 2nd will act as a Wi-Fi network using mobile hotspot)

  1. Turn on the mobile hotspot of your 2nd mobile device.
  2. Reset your Chromecast to its default settings.
  3. Make sure your 1st device is connected to the mobile hotspot of your 2nd mobile device.
  4. Re-run the setup on your Google Home app and choose your mobile hotspot as the network to set it up.

Keep me posted.

Regards,

Juni

Hi there,

Connecting the chromecast to another mobile hostpot network is not actually a solution. Can you please tell me if chromecast is compatible with 5G broadband modem using WIFI 6?

Hi Papicool,

Wi-Fi 6 is not yet compatible with Chromecast. Please make sure the Chromecast is using the 2.4 GHz band. Chromecast (2nd generation) is compatible with both 2.4 GHz WiFi 802.11 b/g/n WiFi networks and 5 GHz networks, so you will see both when setting up the device.

If you have a dual band router, you must disable AP isolation. Other devices such as your laptop/computer can use the 5 GHz band; the 5 GHz band will maximize performance when using the Cast extension to cast a tab.

Hope this helps.

Princess
