That's not a supported configuration.

But, some people have reported that it works fine.

There is a trick... most phones can't BE the WiFi network and act like they are ON the network at the same time.

So, you will probably need another device

Turn on the WiFi hotspot on your phone to make a new network (note: this HAS to have full internet access)
Connect your other device to your phone hotspot
Use the other device to setup your Chromecast to use the phone hotspot
Use the other device to cast to your Chromecast

A couple more warnings... as I said, your hotspot has to have internet access. Chromecasts require this even when you are casting local content. Be warned that Chromecasts can use a LOT of data quickly. Because of this, speed of connection is important. Even if you have "unlimited data", some providers throttle phone data speeds when you do a lot of data. This will impact the quality of your casting or cause a lot of stutters.

1 Bought a new Roku tv for the bedroom. Since I live above a barn I reception issues so I have a cable box for the Roku tv in the living room.  i use the hot spot on my iphone  to connect to Disney for the new tv but the internet speed is too slow to download and when using the streaming disney the content  comes in and out making watching the streaming channel very challenging.  The main house has 5G and has all the channels posssible. They has installed extenders but my reception is still bad. Without my cablebox Spectrum I  could not view contect on my living rooom. My question could Chromecast help my iphone hot spot with network speed and reception?

Hey there dixeesugr,

I am sorry to say, but the Chromecast devices doesn't help with Wi-Fi connectivity. I would encourage you to check out this page on Chromecast to see what they are capable of. Essentially, they are dongles that attach to your TV to allow casting. Although, the newer Chromecast with Google TV has more functionality with the ability to install applications.

Let me know if you had any questions!

Best regards,

Jeran
