Chromecast Audio - connection and multi-room issues

Hi, I have x2 chromecast audios and a Cambridge Audio YOLO L speaker. I used spotify to cast audio to all 3 devices without any trouble for 2-3 years, but now have significant issues. In particular:

- x2 chromecast audios have connection issues - they generally show up on the spotify app fine, but get stuck on the "connecting..." loop

- multiroom function has stopped working entirely - I used to be able to create a speaker group on Google Home and arrange various options for multiroom audio, which worked fine for quite a while. Now when I create a speaker group, at best x1 chromecast audio will play (or it gets stuck on the "connecting..." loop and nothing plays).

I have tried multiple factory resets on the chromecast audios - when reset, they will set-up and initially connect fine for 1/2 days, and then the connection issues come back. I have also tried adjusting the channel for my wifi router (Asus Zenwifi XT8).

Appreciate advice on how to fix this issue for the Chromecast audios and fix the multiroom function.

Hello NckLw,

Thanks for reaching out and for doing some steps beforehand — I appreciate it! Try the additional steps listed below:

  1. Reboot your Chromecast Audio.
  2. Reboot your Cambridge Audio Yoyo L Speaker.
  3. Reboot your Wi-Fi router.
  4. Try to plug in the Chromecast Audio into a different speaker, if one is available.
  5. Uninstall and reinstall the Spotify app and reboot your mobile phone.

Let me know how it goes.

Thanks,

Jennifer

Hi Jennifer, I have tried these steps before multiple times - it will fix the issue for a day or two, and then the connection issues will restart. None of these steps help with multi-room audio function. Thanks,

Hello there,

Thanks for getting back to us. Could you please confirm if your devices are connected to 5 GHz network? Please move your devices closer to your Wi-Fi router. Also, if possible, use an Ethernet adapter.

Jennifer

Yes, it's a 5ghz WiFi network. One of the devices is right next to the router, so it's not a distance issue - it can't really get any closer. Moving them all near to the router would defeat the purpose of multiroom audio. So far as I'm aware, it is not possible to use a ethernet adapter for chromecast audio.

Please let me know if there are any other solutions.
