Chromecast Screen Mirroring Delay

Hello, 

 

I have a question about Chromecast Screen mirroring.   We are a school district attempting to use Chromecast Moderator, but are having an issue with the delay introduced with Chromecasts.  There seems to be a 1-second delay between the computer's display and the Chromecast.  This becomes an issue for schools where they use things like Smart Boards.  With smart boards a person will draw on the Smart Board, and it is very jarring to now have what you've drawn show up for up to a 1 second after drawing it.  We are currently using Epson Connect/Easy MP with our projectors but would like to switch to a platform-independent method to mirror display, thus Chromecast, with Chromecast Moderator.  Everything else is great, students can Cast, no client other than Chrome, but the delay has be an issue that might tank us installing Chromecasts in 200 classrooms.  Is there anything coming down the pipe that will reduce latency or are they any flags in Chrome that can help mitigate this issue?  Chromecast seems like a godsend as they are way cheaper than other options like Vivi or Airtame.

Hi @csyperski -

Our school district has been using the Cast Mod for about a year and that slight delay is normal. It’s something the team is working on but there isn’t an fix scheduled anytime soon.

Thanks @MrVacca, I'd even love to see a flag in chrome where you could lower the quality in favor of lower latency for these use-cases.
