Chromecast and android phone not detecting each other even when on the same wifi network

I have been trying to cast from YouTube and other supported apps from my phone to the Chromecast with Google TV, but the TV doesn't show up on my list of available devices most of the time. I have the same problem when I try to connect a virtual remote from the Google TV App. But occasionally, from time to time, I do see the Chromecast listed in my available devices. I am not able to figure why this happens. I made sure that my phone and the TV are connected to the same wifi network.

Hi wanderer07,

Thanks for posting here in the Google Nest Community. It’s possible that both devices are on the opposite bands (2.4 GHz or 5 GHz). It could also be the router, as some routers have smart band steering capability. If it’s intermittent, this must have something to do with the network. You can isolate it by disconnecting your Chromecast from your Wi-Fi and connecting it to another smartphone’s mobile hotspot along with your actual phone.

At times, it could also be related to the actual phone. Turn off the cellular or mobile data on the phone since it could be jumping from Wi-Fi to LTE. Ensure that the VPN is off.

I hope this helps. Let us know if you have other concerns with your Chromecast devices.

Thanks,

Kimy
