Casting audio to nest speaker while video is playing on Google TV (chromecast) no longer working

I posted about this issue a little over a year ago and was told it was a known issue but the problem is still happening and I don't see anyone else really posting about it. Except now when I try it doesn't even give me the option to add nest device to cast audio to when casting video to my chrome cast. I can do it if casting to my google nest hub, but not if casting to a google tv (chromecast) I used to use this feature quite a lot about 18 months ago and that is what got me to buy several more google nest devices for all the rooms in my house.

I have the latest version of google home and my chrome cast devices all have latest firmware. This all stopped working after an update in about September of 2022.

Hi Draces,

Thanks for posting again here in the Google Nest Community. There must’ve been a misunderstanding or miscommunication in the old post. Using your Google Nest Hub, Nest Mini, etc. as an audio output device (speaker or soundbar) for your Chromecast with Google TV is not supported. You can use other Bluetooth speakers, which will be the slave device for audio out. There are users who have different workarounds for this; just check out this Reddit post: Can I use Google Nest Mini as a TV speaker in combination with the Google Chromecast with Google TV... And I hope it helps.

Let us know if you have other questions or concerns.

Thanks,

Kimy

Thank you Kimy for your Reply. I have already come across that post you linked and unfortunately I don't think those solutions done really work in my situation. I have a Google chrome cast hooked up to a projector, that synced the music videos played from Youtube music to all my nest and google home/hub devices around the house. Many are through several walls and far away from Bluetooth and I don't think I can pair 6+ devices to one Chromecast's Bluetooth audio.

I guess I am confused as to why this setup was working great for months (Back in 2022) and then after an update just stopped.  But you can still do this is casting the video to a Nest hub device then add the other nest audio devices and that keeps the video playing on the Hub, though that screen is much to small for my purpose.
Not sure why they would remove support for such an amazing feature. This was the reason I put a google nest device in each room.

Sorry for the little rant, just a bit frustrated.

Hello Draces,

Thanks for the reply. You must be talking about the speaker group (audio group), where you can add multiple Nest speakers and displays, as well as Chromecast devices. You can cast audio/music intended apps, such as YouTube Music, Spotify, Pandora, etc., to this speaker group, and all of them will play simultaneously. When casting audio/music apps, which would require audio-coded formatted devices, it would accept all the speakers, displays, and Chromecast devices, considering everything can play audio in that speaker group. But it’s a different story now when you cast audio+video intended apps like Netflix, YouTube, Disney+, Prime Video, etc.

I hope this clarifies the confusion. Let us know if you need further help.

Regards,

Kimy
