Chromecast kills my WiFi when casting video

Robmephisto

Having a major problem with my Chromecast with Google TV (HD).

Whenever I try to cast video from my phone (Pixel 6), the video will play at first and then freeze. I will then lose connection and see that every device in the house is now offline, the router has crashed. I usually then have to hard reset the router to get back online.

I have tried using different apps to cast but still same problem.

I have another Chromecast device on a different TV, this one give no issues.

Anyone know why this is happening? Is my Chromecast faulty and should I return it, or is this a problem with settings/configuration maybe?

Hi Robmephisto,

Thanks for posting here in the Google Nest Community. This is one bizarre situation. The fact that a Chromecast device is just a receiver once granted access by the router to an internet connection makes this situation really odd. The Chromecast device has no control over the router. Let’s isolate this by disconnecting this Chromecast device from your Wi-Fi and connecting or setting it up on another smartphone’s mobile hotspot along with your Pixel 6, then observe if the same behavior persists. Let us know how it goes.

We look forward to your response.

Thanks,

Kimy

Hi Kimy,

Thanks for your response.

I have not been able to do the above yet.

But I have tried to cast to my Chromecast from two laptops using Google Chrome and both worked perfectly, stable video for over an hour over WiFi.

So it seems like the problem is only when the Pixel 6 tries to cast?

Any thoughts why that might be?

Thanks for your help so far,

Rob

Hello Robmephisto,

Thanks for the reply. If that’s the case, then it could be in the phone’s settings. But I still find it odd, unless you have an app on your phone that can control your router or home Wi-Fi structure. I suggest you give our friends at the Google Pixel Help Community a shout. They may have an answer for this.

Let us know if you have other concerns with your Chromecast device.

Thanks,

Kimy
