Chromecast not working

My chromecast was bought 8 years ago (2014 - not sure if that makes it first or second gen). Was working fine then we moved house and I couldn't set it up despite using google device utility app and the google home app. I followed all the steps but once I connect to the device's wifi the utility app says it can't connect for some reason. Tried turning it off and on again or putting in a different HDMI port. 

Then someone on a thread suggested I turn off wi-fi and connect through device utility app and add it. That worked. Now a few months later I've had to reboot my Chromecast due to issues with Disney plus and now I can't set the Chromecast up again. It's quite frustrating!

I'm in the UK and trying from my Google pixel 6.

Any help welcome.

Thanks for reaching out and for providing detailed information of the issue you're experiencing with your Chromecast device. 

 

If you've followed the same steps to set up your Chromecast and the issue still persists, please reboot your phone and set up your Chromecast again. Using a different mobile phone such as a non Pixel or a non Android device to setup your Chromecast if one is available might also help.
