Chromecast remote is overheating and google support is not helping.

Im still waiting on Google support to actually look at the call requests, does anyone else know how to deal with a broken remote? I bought it less than a year ago, it suddenly started eating up batteries within a day, and today it just started overheating out of nowhere. No light when batteries are put in, but the entire remote starts to burn my hand, including the batteries. I have put fresh ones in over and over and nothing is working. I have followed the default instructions given, to the letter, five times over, and nothing has worked.

Hi @LuckyTact

Sorry to hear you are having issues.

Did you try reaching out to Google Nest Support during work hours?
This also gives you the option to start a support chat which is faster overall.

Hi folks,

Thanks for your help, @RXShorty.

@LuckyTact, thanks for posting and for being a step ahead of us. You can try this workaround:

  • Remove the batteries and give it a 2 to 3 minute rest.
  • While the batteries are out, press and hold down the power button for 15 to 20 seconds to fully drain any static power left on the chipset/motherboard of the Chromecast Voice remote, then release the button.
  • Let the remote rest again for 2 to 3 minutes. Then try it again and observe if it will persist.
  • You can then perform a factory reset on the remote after this.

Let me know how it goes.

Thanks,

Kimy
