Chromecast remote stopped powering my tv on/off

Elsaplex

Hi there,

My TV used to turn off/on when I hit the power button on my Chromecast remote, but ever since the remote stopped working and had to be unpaired/re-paired this function no longer works.

Is there anything in addition to configuring the remote power button in settings (which has been done) that I can do to bring this feature back?

Thank you!

Hi Elsaplex,

Thanks for reaching out. Please check again if the CEC is turned on in your TV settings and make sure you point your remote directly at the device you want to control. Also, please try to set up the buttons again in your remote after pairing it. See the steps here

Thanks,

Jennifer

Hi Jennifer! Sorry for the delay. I wasn't sure what CEC was on my TV and needed to do some research first. As I've not had a chance to take the time to do that yet I am not sure if it solves the issue yet.

I can say that the TV was switching off fine with the chromecast remote until very recently and there have been no changes to the TV settings. But I will check out your suggestions soon and post an update here.

Hi Elsaplex,

Sure thing — take your time. I'll wait for your update here. Also, you may reach out to your TV manufacturer for additional help.

Thanks,

Jennifer

Hi there,

How's it going with your Chromecast Voice Remote? Did you manage to get it working?

Best,

Jennifer

I ended up removing the tv and the remote, restarted the google chrome device and then reinstalled everything. During the reinstall I was able to get the power button to work but then there was an issue with the volume buttons on the remote - I tried to set that back up once I had reinstalled the remote but every time I tested channel 1 it would move the TV to AV1 rather than adjust the TV's volume. I gave up after a while, but then when I returned to the TV that evening and used the remote the volume buttons were working.
On the whole the chrome device has been behaving a bit iffy of late. Sometimes it doesn't respond at all to the remote like this morning, I could not turn the TV off with the remote. It wouldn't respond at all to the power button (not like before when the power button would turn off Chrome but leave the TV on.) And then it would respond again after a while.
NB the batteries show as being fine so that's not the issue...

Hi Elsaplex,

Thanks for the update. Could you try to factory reset your Chromecast Voice Remote and Chromecast dongle and check if the same issue will persist?

Regards,

Jennifer
