Chromecast sleep timer no longer works

pgriggy

I used to be able to issue a command via the Home app such as "Turn off TV in 10 minutes" and the Chromecast would turn off my TV in 10 minutes as expected.

I'm not sure what has happened lately but this no longer works. The app seems to recognize the command, but the device does not turn off the TV.

So far I've tried the following (all unsuccessful):

  • Updating Chromecast to latest software
  • Removing and adding Chromecast from Home group
  • Renaming Chromecast device
  • Deleting and re-creating Home group
  • Factory resetting Chromecast

Other commands work just fine, I just can't get it to turn itself off after x number of minutes anymore.

Any ideas on what the potential issue/solution could be?

Thanks!

Check that both the TV and the Chromecast device have HDMI CEC enabled. Set the Chromecast remote power button to TV CEC.

Also check the Chromecast device energy saving settings.

Thanks, setting the remote from Auto to manually selecting CEC seems to have resolved this (even though Auto was showing CEC has being the current selection)

The "Auto" setting is supposed to try to take control any device connected through HDMI, but the Chromecast device can actually control only one device via CEC protocol.
