Chromecast stays in ambient mode when google home mini results are supposed to be displayed

When I first setup my Google home mini and Chromecast I could ask Google to "show me videos of blah blah on screen" ('screen' being the name of the chromecast) and it would display YouTube results for whatever I was searching for on the TV. I would then tell the home mini which video I wanted to watch, and it would play it. NOW, when Google provides the results of the request, the chromecast stays in ambient mode, even tho the mini thinks it's displaying the matching results, and asks me "which one do you want?".

I didn't change anything in my setup, this just stopped working one day... it was intermittent at first (sometimes it worked, sometimes it just stayed in ambient). I've tried factory resetting both the mini and the chromecast... still doesn't work.

Anything else I can try? Hidden settings?

Hi Cdig,

Thanks for posting and for being a step ahead of us.

I know how it feels when something isn’t working as it should. Let me help you. A few things: which Chromecast device are we working with? When you cast to your Chromecast using the YouTube app are you getting the same response? Has there been any changes on the router settings?

You can try a sequential reboot. First, unplug your Home Mini and Chromecast for 30 seconds, then do the same thing to your Wi-Fi router to refresh all devices and your Wi-Fi signal. Once everything is booted up try casting again and observe if this will make a difference.

Let me know how it goes.

Regards,

Juni
