Chromecast w/ google tv: no remote control from casted youtube videos

Hi - I have this problem since day 1 a few months ago. When I cast a video from Chrome browser, the CCwGTV (4k) will start YT just fine, but there's no remote control (ie play/pause etc). If I use the remote to pick a video from the YT app (from the Google TV home), play/pause and all remote control worked fine.

If I cast from my phone's YT app (android 10 phone), remote works fine.

The YT app that is launched appears to be the legacy version (no animation on the YT logo during start up). If I uninstall the YT app from the CCwGTV device, the legacy app still launches after casting a video. After a video finishes, the old YT screen is seen: https://imgur.com/a/CkiPmbO like this one.

It's the same issue as this: https://www.googlenestcommunity.com/t5/Chromecast/Chromecast-remote-only-half-working-both-IR-or-CEC...

In my case I don't think it's the TV, since I have a CC Ultra that does not experience this issue on the same TV.

Thanks.

Hi mmark,

Thanks for reaching out. Is this only happening when casting from YouTube or across all apps? Please reboot your Chromecast and plug it in on a different HDMI port on your TV. Resetting your Chromecast with Google TV (4K) might also help.

Let me know how it goes.

Thanks,

Jennifer

Thanks for the response. Yes I've rebooted, tried the another HDMI (ARC port) and also factory reset it.

The issue is only with Youtube. It's clearly launching the legacy app if casting from Chrome browser. Legacy app doesn't do remote at all. This isn't even the version on the CC Ultra.

Is there a way to put in a bug report to which group works on this?

Thanks.

Hey mmark,

You're welcome and thanks for the information. If the issue is isolated when using YouTube, please file feedback about this through YouTube. Here's how.

Let me know if you have other questions and concerns otherwise, I'll be locking this thread after 24 hours.

Thanks,

Jennifer
