Chromecast with Google TV 4K Won’t Automatically Play- Seems like a downgrade from my old device

Hi there,

I have recently “upgraded” to a Google Chromecast with Google TV 4K from my old I think Gen 2 Chromecast. Something I loved about my old device was that I would simply say “play the Simpsons from Disney+ on lounge room tv” and the show would automatically start playing. Now with the new device, I need to use the remote to get it started. Very inconvenient and externally frustrating given I thought I was upgrading.

I found this thread outlining the same issue I have - https://www.googlenestcommunity.com/t5/Chromecast/All-streaming-apps-won-t-automatically-play-when-u...

I have done all of the recommendations and still not working the way it used to.

Any help would be much appreciated. @Snowman4, did you have any success?

No I have not had any changes with all the recommendations either. Sometimes I can’t get things to cast from phone either. I have to use the remote and google tv apps available. YouTube doesn’t work as well casting from a phone. It just never connects. I have tried adding him as a user(which just makes it more complicated to use the chromecast because you have to pick users) and I have tried connecting on my phone and it doesn’t work either. They just REALLY want you to use the remote which sucks. That was the whole reason I went away from Amazon because I don’t like keeping track of a remote.

Hello BobbyG_yall,

Thanks for reaching out and for doing the recommended steps in the link you've shared in your post. To confirm, did you try to test it with other apps? If yes, how was it?

Thanks,

Jennifer

This is the reply I got from google:

Thanks for reaching out to the Google Nest Customer Care Team.

This is Jayson, one of the support specialists from the Google Chromecast team. The Chromecast with Google TV is working as designed. Unlike the previous generation Chromecasts devices, the new generation has an operating system where apps can be installed natively. Locally installed apps tend to always ask which profile to use when using it.

Please send feedback so we can have this concern looked at for future improvements.

Hi there,

I'm sorry I didn't get back to y'all sooner.

BobbyG_yall, how's it going? Still need help?

Snowman4, wires get a little crossed internally but we're able to sort it out. Our team checked on your case and found out that your Chromecast should automatically play videos without pressing the voice remote to play them.

They sent you an email to clear things out — we'd suggest replying to it and we'll be working closely with them to see more of what's happening.

Best,

Jennifer
