Chromecast with Google TV Connected to AV Receiver Stopped working

Connected to my AV receiver worked fine for several months then "no signal, is it on?".  Went through all reset processes, no change.  Called Google tech support and went through everything they suggested with no luck.  Google sent me a new unit.  Plugged it in and it worked fine.  Several months went by then the same problem came back.  Both times I tried it in every HDMI in on my receiver and it would not work.  Why would things work for several months then stop with no changes to the receiver or Chromecast being made?

Out of curiosity I tried both Chromecast units plugged directly into TV and they work fine.  Where should I look to check for a possible setting problem with the chromecast and the receiver.

The problem here is officially, Google only supports connecting Chromecast to the HDMI input of a TV. Connecting it to anything else, such as AV receivers isn't supported. Have you checked the settings on the AV receiver or their support website for anything obvious which could be causing the issue?

I checked settings on the AV receiver and on both Chromecast units.  I tried both Chromecasts in all of the HDMI inputs on the receiver.

The part that is hard to understand is that both Chromecasts worked for several months before suddenly exhibiting the problem with no settings on the receiver or the Chromecasts being changed.  Do you have any ideas where I should look further?

Thanks

The age of your reveiver could be a problem, or the cable between the reciever and TV could be an issue as well. For what it's worth here are requirements for chromecast w/GTv

I really appreciate the suggestions that I'm getting.  With each response I learn something else useful.  If I keep asking questions eventually the solution will pop up.

Further info for you to factor in - There are 5 other devices connected to the AV receiver and there is one output from the receiver to the HDMI 1 input of the TV.  The only problem is with the Chromecast, everything else works properly so I'm not sure that it could be an HDMI cable problem.

Still the most perplexing issue is that 2 different Chromecasts each worked well for several months before suddenly producing a no signal error with no changes to settings or connections.  The TV says "HDMI 1 no signal, is it on?" but only for the Chromecast not for any of the other devices that are connected to the AV receiver.  And the Chromecast gives the same no signal error no matter which of the 6 HDMI inputs I use on the receiver.

I'm throwing this out there to see what further ideas may pop up.

Thanks

Hey there ess,

I'm sorry about the late response on this thread, thank you for being patient! Do you know if you get that "No Signal" error message when you plug the Chromecast directly into the HDMI of the TV? Also, when this error occurs, what color is the LED light on the Chromecast? Depending on what color the LED light on the Chromecast turns, we can try a few different troubleshooting steps.

I look forward to your response on this!

Best regards,
Jeran

Jeran,

I really appreciate your getting back to me.

I have 2 Chromecast with Google units and both do the same thing.  They both work with other TVs but give the "no signal" message when connected to my Marantz 7007 AV receiver.  The thing that makes no sense is that each of the Chromecasts worked for a number of months when connected to this AV receiver.  The reason I have 2 Chromecasts is that when the first one started the "no signal" message I bought the 2nd one.  That one worked for several months then gave "no signal"

The light remains white

It seems like an incompatibility problem but I don't know why it would work for awhile then quit

Thanks

Eric

Hi eess,

It's no problem at all! Though the behavior is weird, it's possible that the HDMI of the receiver is somehow having issues reading the Chromecast when plugged in overtime. One possible explanation I can provide is this is possibly caused by EDID. EDID is short for Extended Display Identification Data, which allows your TV to describe its capabilities to the Chromecast (or any device plugged into the HDMI port). Since both Chromecast devices are working on the TV when directly plugged in, the issue could only be revolving around the AV receiver.

Sadly, I'm not sure if there is much we can do troubleshooting wise on the forum itself for this kind of issue, you may either need to contact Chromecast Support to dig a bit deeper, or even contact Marantz support to see if they would know how to remedy this.

I'm sorry we couldn't have been more helpful, but if you had any more questions or concerns, please let us know.

Best regards,

Jeran

Hi everyone,

Thanks for the help, davidking, kiltguy2112, and Jeran.

eess, how's it going? Did you manage to get your devices working? As suggested by Jeran, you may contact your AV receiver manufacturer for additional help, since the issue is isolated when using it. There might be some settings that need to be checked or there might be an update with your receiver that is why it is no longer working with your Chromecast.

Regards,

Jennifer
