Chromecast with Google TV HDMI-CEC not working properly

vickenk

I am having problem getting CEC to work properly in my home setup. Chromecast is connected to Yamaha RX-V481 A/V receiver that is connected to a Samsung KU7000 TV. CEC is enabled on all devices.

Chromecast correctly turns on the TV and AVR using HDMI-CEC, but it doesn't turn off as it should. What happens is that TV and AVR turns off and then after couple of seconds the AVR turns back on again while the TV remains off.

Any idea what might be the culprit here?

Thanks,

Hey there vickenk,

I apologize about the slow response time, thank you for being patient! Were you able to fix that CEC issue? If not, I'd be happy to help out, let me just ask you some questions about what's happening:

  • When did this issue start happening?
  • Is the Chromecast's firmware up-to-date?
  • Have you tried swapping around the HDMI port that the Chromecast is plugged into?
  • Have you tried plugging the Chromecast directly into the TV's HDMI port?

I look forward to your response, and if you have any other questions or concerns for me, please let me know!

Best regards,
Jeran

Hi Jeran,

No the CEC issue is not fixed yet. To answer your questions:
1. Since first day I got my Chromecast
2. Yes
3. Yes
4. No. This would be tricky, I have to unmount TV from wall.

Another finding is that when I use voice command "Turn off TV" (Google Assistant) it works correctly every time!

Any suggestions?

One more thing I noticed also is that the same problems happens when Chromecast Energy Saver turns off TV after being idle for 30 min.

Awesome, thanks for letting me know! We can give a couple of things a try in this situation.

First, the remote may not be properly programmed to your receiver in a way that the "Turn Off" button only turns off the TV but not the AVR completely. Which could be why it seems to reboot the device instead of turning everything completely off. That is what we can tell with your statement that you can turn it off successfully using Google Assistant

However, if that is not the issue, then we would suggest that you try to plug it directly with the TV. Chromecast works best with the CEC feature if it's directly plugged to the TV and not the AVR.

Let me know if that works out!

Best regards,

Jeran
