Chromecast with Google TV: Usable without remotes and native streaming accounts?

I need to replace an old Gen1 Chromecast now unsupported by one of my apps. Apart from runout old stock, everyone just seems to sell Chromecast with Google TV now.

Can it just be used like classic Chromecast, to stream from the Chromecast-enabled apps on my phone or tablet, without having to mess with the remote or sign-into my Netflix etc accounts again?

Yes the Chromecast with Google TV 4k and HD versions can still be used for casting from a mobile device and Chromecast enabled apps.

I did in fact have to install batteries on the remote and confirm several steps of the installation using the remote, so I don't think it's accurate to claim that it can be operated solely using the Chromecast device itself. The installation also took an incredibly long time, given that I didn't actually connect any of my streaming accounts to the remote.

We hear you and thanks for getting back to us. During the initial setup, you need to use the Voice Remote and pair it with your Chromecast with Google TV (4K or HD). Once it is set up successfully, you can either use the Voice Remote or use your mobile device to cast your favorite show and movies to your TV.
