Chromecast with Google TV cannot control TV volume with CEC.

Chromecast should be able to control TV volume with CEC instead of infrared. The problem is that remote send in IR the volume command to TV, that, in return, resend infrared to receiver. That way, receiver receive IR from remote and IR from TV at the same time, that is not working. I replaced my Fire TV that was supporting all CEC commands and it worked very good. Why chromecast is not supporting these CEC commands?

Is your Chromecast with Google TV powered directly by the wall outlet supply or is it powered by the TV USB port?

Verify if the TV volume control is set to control the audio system (AV receiver) and not the TV speakers.

It's powered by the wall outlet. TV volume is set to control receiver. The problem is that the chromecast does not support CEC for the volume. The remote control the TV volume by infrared only. No option for CEC. CEC is by HDMI, not USB.

It seems to me that you have to decide which one, between the TV and AV receiver, you want to control with the Chromecast remote.

You can't control both.

I have no question about the CEC. The fact is that Chromecast doesn't support CEC for volume control it should support it like Fire TV does. It Chromecast already CEC for other features like power on/off.

Thanks

I totally understand, I've also had some issues with the Chromecast Voice Remote's volume buttons in particular. What I would recommend you do, if you have the time, is to submit feedback via Google TV to let Google know that controlling the TV volume via CEC is something you'd like to see in the future. While Google won't respond directly back to you, they take all forms of feedback seriously.

I hope this helps you out, let me know if you had any other questions or concerns.

Best regards,

Jeran
