Chromecast won't download apps

I bought a brand new Chromecast with Google TV (to replace one no longer working because the remote was defective) and go through the whole set up process, everything is on the same Wifi network, the remote is working etc, but the apps just won't load. For every single app the message just says "download pending". I have reset to factory settings 3 times and just back to the same place each time. It spends half an hour saying that it's downloading the apps, but then nothing actually downloads.

I am really sorry to hear that your new Chromecast with Google TV is having issues downloading apps! This issue can be pretty frustrating, so I would be happy to help out. First, I would recommend that you read and follow the steps listed in this article.

 

If you followed the steps in the article linked above and the problem persists, here is a work-around that I found online from a user with a similar problem that may resolve your issue:

  1. Cancel all pending updates.
  2. Go to Settings > Apps > Show System Apps.
  3. Force stop Google Play Services and delete all cached data.
  4. Force stop Google Play Store and delete all the updates.
  5. Stay within the system menus, don't go back to the home screen.
  6. Open the Google Play Store from the Settings > Apps menu.
  7. Disable auto updates within the Google Play Store app settings.
  8. Search for the word "Google" in the Google Play Store. Manually update each Google app which is already installed, one at a time. Wait for each one to complete.
  9. Stay within the Google Play Store and manually install each of your desired apps, one at a time.
  10. Once you have installed all the apps you want, then it's safe to go to the home screen.
