Clueless Chromecast user

I am not tech savvy….  I bought a chrome cast for my non- smart TVs.  I have done everything I can find to do but can’t get Netflix to play.  I’m so lost.

i don’t know if I have 1st or 2nd gen chromecast.

 It’s hooked up, I have Google home and Netflix  on my phone.  Now what?

 

i think it’s getting ready to play on my phone….. help….

Okay so when you want to cast Netflix, you would make sure your phone is on the same wifi network as your Chromecast, open Netflix on your phone, choose a title to play, and hit play.  Once it starts, you will see a cast icon which looks like a rectangle with some crescent shaped lines on one corner...hit that, and select your Chromecast.
