Does it allow an alternative way to power the Chromecast?

I had used some other dongles to stream video to a TV, and they drew power from a USB port on the same TV. That is the dongle is plugged into both a HDMI port and a USB port on the TV.

For Chromecast with Google TV 4K, it has a separate power adapter to provide the 5V it needs to operate. May I ask if I can power the Chromecast from a USB port on the TV instead ?

If you want an alternative way to power your Chromecast with Google TV 4K device, you can use an USB-C powered hub, with or without a built in ethernet connection. If you want to connect other devices along with your Chromecast device, make sure to use a power adaptor able to supply the required energy for all potential connected devices.

Yes, an USB C powered hub with Ethernet connection can be used with Chromecast with Google TV to establish a wired internet connection.

Personally I use Baseus Metal Gleam 8 in 1 CAHUB-CV0G USB-C powered hub with built-in gigabyt ethernet, without any issues.

The only issue I have is that, for the moment, I cannot route the audio signal anymore to the USB DAC connected to the hub, because of an issue with Chromecast with Google TV software that Google has to address.

I have tried plugging both HD and 4K versions to both the TV's and the receiver's 5V USB ports. In all cases Chromecast either didn't start or threw an error saying it needs its separate power adapter.

Both HD and 4K versions include a power adapter and USB A to C cable.

Thanks.

May I ask

1) when you mention a USB hub with a built-in ethernet connection, do you mean the hub's wired ethernet can be used by a Chromecast, so that the Chromecast does not need to use wireless WiFi ?

2) do you have a model for such USB hub with ethernet that I can get ?

Thanks.

Thankyou very much for the detail information, very helpful.

Hope Google will resolve the audio issue soon.

May I ask if you aware of the Google Chromecast AC power adapter with ethernet port?  I wonder if this has no audio problem?

In the meantime, how do you resolve the audio issue?

Thanks.

The Google power adaptor with built-in ethernet doesn't help with the audio routing to USB accessories, because it doesn't feature any USB ports and can't be used as a hub.

In order to route audio to USB accessories, like a DAC with USB audio input, you need to connect both the Chromecast with Google TV and the DAC to a powered USB-C hub.

Given the fact that for now the USB audio routing is not working, the Chromecast with Google TV is connected to a HDMI switch with digital optical and digital coaxial audio outputs.
