Google Assistant keeps forgetting my default music provider

Google Assistant keeps forgetting my default music provider:

Even though I have Apple Music linked in the Google Home app, Google Assistant insists I have not set a default music provider. So I can't play Apple Music on the device (Chromecast with Google TV). Very, very frustrating and annoying.

Hi currencylad,

Thanks for reaching out and I'm sorry to hear about that. Let's sort this out.

Quick question: what Google Assistant device are you using, is it a Google Home device or the Google Assistant button on your Chromecast Voice Remote? In the meantime, could you please unlink and relink your Apple Music in the Google Home app and try again? Rebooting your Chromecast with Google TV and your Google Assistant device might also help.

Thanks,

Jennifer

After installing the latest System Update for Chromecast with Google TV, dated March 2022, Apple Music (which I have set as my default music provider) fails to launch.

Hi currencylad,

Hi Jennifer,

Thanks for your kind reply.
I am using the Google Assistant button on the Chromecast remote.
Funnily enough, before unlinking and re-linking my Apple Music account as you suggested, I tried playing music via the Google Home app. This worked to my surprise, but of course I have no control over what is played (just random tracks from my library).
Anyway, I unlinked and re-linked my Apple Music account as suggested (this trick worked once before when the service stopped working) and Google Assistant now launches Apple Music with the track/artist/playlist I asked for.
So that's good. But for how long?
Anyway, thanks very much for your help.
Kind Regards
