Can someone please help?, I purchased a Google Chromecast in the UK while on holiday, but as I logged in using my South Africa account, BBC iPlayer will not work as it "thinks" I am in South Africa, also adding some Apps I get error message saying this is not compatible with your device! (Paramount+) and I think this is because Paramount+ is not available in SA. What should I do? I cant setup a new account for the UK without having a UK phone number

Because the account you're signed into Chromecast with is based in South Africa. Your Google Play country determines what content you see in the store. Those apps are not available in South Africa, hence you're seeing these issues.
To resolve this, you either need to change the country on your account to the UK or create a UK based Google account and sign into Chromecast with that account instead.
Note that if you're only staying in the UK for a short while, changing the country on your account probably isn't desirable because you can only change your Play country once per year. If you change your country, you won’t be able to change it back for one year.

I note your point about needing a UK phone number to create a UK account, that's by design. If you want to do that, you could get a pay as you go SIM card from any high street retailer or buy one online.

This isn't a device issue, unfortunately. To use those services, they must be available in your country.
If you're technically savvy, you can use a VPN to workaround some of these restrictions but this is not supported.

Thank You, this is what I thought as it was not working while I am still here in the UK, so bottom line is, its not that great to travel with as you cant watch from your home country due to IP address and you cant watch local stuff in holiday country due to your login data !

Thanks, I am now back in South Africa, so will test it here and see what I get but I guess my question is what determine what you can see, 1) where (what Country) you register your google account name or your IP address of the country you are in at the time.

Hi RDCullis,
Thanks for keeping us in the loop. The availability of the installable apps is based on the country indicated in your Google Play account. Let us know if you still have questions.
