Google Home can't turn chromecast on/off, virtual remote can

The turning on/off via Home main screen via the Chromecast tv icon works inconsistently: mostly doesn't, sometimes does, sometimes with considerable delay.

Turning on/off via the virtual remote via Home app always works, so somehow these are not the same commands.

Chromecast is also sometimes shown offline.

For streaming and casting, everything always works. However, when the Home app can't turn it on/off, neither can the Nest.

Any help?

  • Chromecast with google tv 4k HDR
  • LG 55UH615V. However, I think the TV itself is irrelevant. If I turn off HDMI CEC, I can clearly see that the problem is turning on and off the actual chromecast (always works via virtual remote, sporadically via the thumbnail in the app)
  • About a month ago
  • A lot: reset the router, unplugged tv and chromecast, factory reset chromecast, uninstalled home app etc. None of these give permanent fixes (though I notice it always works shortly after a step such as unplugging).

Got it! Since those steps didn’t work, could you try plugging your Chromecast into another TV and observe if it will make any difference?

No, I don't have a second tv.

Again, the chromecast itself doesn't turn off. I tested this by turning off the HDMI CEC on the tv, and seeing that the chromecast remained active when using the app thumbnail, but went inactive when using the virtual remote.
