I had a chromecast (1 gen) that worked fine. I recently updated my wifi and so lost connectivity. I tried the factory reset and got to the screen on the TV where I see the welcome screen asking me to go to chromecast.com/setup or use the Google Home app and shows a chromecast# at the bottom left - I am guessing this means the chromecast itself is working fine. Regardless of the option I get forced to using Google home. Fine downloaded Google home. Now when i add a device in GHome it never finds the chromecast. I have tried all options of using 2.4/5G network and all the other suggestions. One of them is crazy - make sure both chromecast and device on same network - when I cant find the device to setup the wifi how do i even get it to be the same?? It used to be a lot easier using Google...not anymore. I get the feeling they are trying to force me to upgrade when i have a device that worked fine.

I kept playing with this some more and finally got it to work...I am sure I tried this before but not sure why that didnt work then. ok here are the steps...
1. reset the chromecast and get the welcome screen on your TV showing the chromecast#
2. using your phone connect your phone wifi to be same as chromecast# wifi option.
3. go to Google Home app and do "+" -> "add new device" -> add home/room -> connect to wifi (enter the new wifi connection here) -> continue few more steps and you should be done.
4. when you are done with this the phone automatically switched to the home wifi.
Hope this works for you!
