Google home cannot find chromecast

I am having trouble setting up my chromecast (1st gen)..a blue screen shows up on the TV telling me to "continue to follow the instructions on my phone, tablet or laptop" (It does not have any code). The chromecast is flashing white, meaning it has to be set up. So I went to my Google home app to set it up but it could not find my device. Everything is working fine: Bluetooth on, location service on, strong wifi, latest iOS, latest version of Google home app. I even tried on my iPad but same problem - can't find the device.

What am I missing??

Thanks in advance.

Look at the list of available wi fi networks

if the chromecast is powered on, you’ll see a Wi-Fi network called chromecast

join that Wi-Fi, then go back to the app

I’m having this same problem today. Google app not finding a Gen1 chromecast. It should not be this difficult to set this up. The cynic in me is thinking it’s to force upgrade to a newer model.

does anyone have a fix for this?

I guess things haven't gotten much better! I am having the same issue with Google TV HD Chromecast. It cannot find The Home App on my Google Pixel 7 phone. On going open ticket open with Google. Still not working. Judging by the amount of responses to these problems, I don't think we'll be getting help here.

I contacted Google support for advice.

look at your available Wi-Fi networks and connect to the chromecast that way.

then go back to the Google home APP. NOT THE WEB BROWSER.

worked straight away then.
I was trying to configure the chromecast through a browser rather than the app. Wasn’t working. As soon as tried through the app worked first time.

note: this was after a factory reset too.

How do I do this?

Thank you

Thanks Jordan2. I thought I tried this last time and it didn't work. Somehow I tried the way you explained it just now, and it connected no problem. Much appreciated.
