Google tv stuck on screensaver

JoshuaRowan88
Community Member

after Google tv is left idle and goes into the screensaver mode I try and exit with the remote but only can use certain buttons to scroll through photos and assistant work but won't search. Can't get it to go to the home screen unless I unplug power from wall and rest google tv. Happens multiple times a week. Reset controller and no updates available for device. Only thing I haven't don't yet is factory reset. Anything I can do or anything else having this problem.

Hi JoshuaRowan88,

Thanks for reaching out and for doing some steps beforehand — these are of great help! To cover all the bases, please try to plug in the Chromecast into a different HDMI port on your TV and reboot your Wi-Fi router. Plugging it on a different TV screen and resetting the Chromecast might also help.

Thanks,

Jennifer

This same thing keeps happening to me too. I'm going to guess it's probably a common issue, possibly related to an update.

I’ve only recently had this issue today and it looks like a new bug in an update as it’s never happened before.

I'm having identical issue. Cannot get out of Screensaver no matter what I hit on my remote. I have to unplug my Google TV dongle and reboot it. It's happened several times so far. Extremely annoying.

Hey folks,

I'm sorry to hear that you're also experiencing the same issue with your Chromecast with Google TV. Have you tried the steps suggested above? If yes, how was it? Also, could you please provide the cast firmware version of your device? See here how you can get this info.

Thanks,

Jennifer

Hello AppleCedAR,

Cool, glad to hear! In the meantime, do you still have other questions and concerns?

Best,

Jennifer

No other question. Thank you @Jennifer

It may be worth noting that my other Chromecast had a completely different issue at the same time.  In this case,  the image stream was scrambled. Presenting like hundreds of little video screens at once.  The same powered down to reset send to correct this issue as well.  Fluke or ?

Solved by power cycling the Chromecast device. Thank you @JenniferV

We have the same issue. But we do not have chromecast. Ours is hardwired into our cable box. What do you suggest?

Hello Molson7100,

Do you have a Chromecast built-in device? If yes and you have tried the suggested steps above but the issue still persists, please reach out to your device manufacturer for further help.

Thanks,

Jennifer

Hi Jennifer

I am facing the same issue. I ve got a Chromecast with Google TV and it's stuck in screensaver mode since about two weeks.  Most buttons on the remote control no longer work except for volume control and left/right. I first suspected our toddler somehow locked the remote control but reading this thread here about recent issues with other users, it seems to be a firmware issue. My firmware version is: 1.56.292394.

Hey JB444,

Have you tried the suggested steps above? If you haven't yet, please try that and also, remove the batteries on your Voice Remote and put it back in after 2 minutes. Resetting your Voice Remote might also help.

Thanks,

Jennifer

Issue was solved by removing/restoring power for a few minutes.  This solved the symptoms, but probably not the root cause. Will monitor this for a while.

I am also seeing this issue.  Can someone at google please escalate this and have a product engineer look at this?

The root cause has not been identified or resolved.  Rebooting a device is not a root cause.  Has this been escalated to Google product engineering so that they are aware of these types of issues?  Without their knowledge of issues the product quality may not improve.

Hiya alextalp0,

If you are still able to re-create the issue, I would encourage you to submit feedback via Google TV. That way, if any error logs are created, they will be sent to the engineering team. Otherwise, if you are unable to create the issue, we would need to wait until it arises again.

Best regards,

Jeran

Hello. I am having this issue. It has happened a few times and like others have mentioned, the only way to fix so far has been to unplug the device and plug it back in. It just happened now and I sent feedback through the device with feed logs as well.

Hey there Timrtrout,

I appreciate you re-creating the issue and sending feedback! Every bit of feedback that Google received regarding an issue helps them track down the error.

Best regards,
