HDR not working

singhshivam25
Community Member

HDR was working fine out of the box when the device was running on Android 10. Recently it got Android 12 update which I eagerly installed. Now I am noticing that none of the services are playing content in HDR. Netflix, Prime Video even Youtube. They were playing HDR content fine earlier. To make sure I played same content on Netflix through inbuilt Netflix app on my TV and Fire TV stick 4K, it is working fine. Please take a look at this bug and fix it.

Hello singhshivam25,

That certainly hasn't been easy for you ― let’s check this out. I believe what you have is a Chromecast with Google TV(HD) and after updating to Android 12, all video platforms and apps are not working anymore, right?

Could you do a sequential reboot starting with your WiFi router, TV, then your Chromecast. Restarting your phone where the Google Home app is might help. If needed be, use a different HDMI then set it up.

Keep me posted.

Best,

Dan

It's Google Chromcast 4K with Google TV. Yes, I did restart all my devices infact I did factory reset on Chromcast through settings and hard reset with the button present on the dongle. Nothing worked.

Hi there,

Chiming in, did you have the chance to try the steps above?

Cheers,

Muddi

Yes, I did everything mentioned above plus Factory Reset. It's still the same. HDR not working.

Hey singhshivam25,

Thanks for the update. Did you change any settings on your TV lately? Also, some TVs require you to manually turn on HDR from within the TV settings menu. Please check your manual for instructions. Also, If possible, update your TV's firmware.

Cheers,

Muddi

No, I haven't changed anything and infact it works just fine with inbuilt Netflix and Amazon Prime Video app and on Fire TV Stick 4K. It changes scene automatically when it detects HDR content playing. Firmware is up to date on both TV and Chromcast 4K with Google TV (Running the latest update Android 12).

I have the same problem as above, i have a video projector Optoma Uhd 30 conected with a sony soundbar xt 8500 and a google chromecast 4k with remote, after update no streaming service display hdr content. In display settings i mange to see at color format only ycbr 420 8 bit. If i conect directly in projector the chromecast i can see 4:2:2 with 10 bit and 12 bit and hdr is working on streaming services, but i can not use this setup because i do not have dolby atmos sound. I tryed everything for two days, factory resets to all but nothing succeded. so why it worked and now it is not working?

This is a bug with Android 12 update.
