@Kimy Chromcast issue.

@Kimy why would you merge and issue that has been going on for over 2 years now into a thread that is labeled answered with no answer in the thread? Will anyone give any info on the issue or is it just to be swept under the rug?

Link to the thread.

Hi CAMeeks78,

Thanks for posting again here in the Google Nest Community—Chromecast. This issue has been answered in the old thread, but I’ll explain it further for clarity. The Chromecast Ultra, Chromecast 3rd Gen, and older versions are pure (slave) casting devices. It is not a smart device, and it doesn’t have the hardware to do so. It just has the chipset to accept casting commands. The Google Nest speakers and displays have Google Assistant functions, which makes them smart. It takes the voice command, which is then translated via an algorithm that will then send it as a cast command to the Chromecast device. This is why it works when you say, “Hey Google, play Stranger Things on Netflix on bedroom TV," and the Chromecast device will play it on the TV. The Chromecast accepts it similar to how it accepts the cast command from a Netflix app on a smartphone. This is a clear indicator that your Chromecast Ultra is working as intended.

The issue here is that, along the way, the translation (algorithm) of the command doesn’t seem to translate a proper cast command. Again, Chromecast is for pure casting. It’s not smart enough to understand any of the algorithms or translations; it’s the Google Assistant device’s task. Your Chromecast Ultra can be compared to a doorman who will only let people inside who wear IDs. With that being said, this boils down to the smart device (Google Nest speaker and/or display) or the application (Netflix, YouTube, etc.). The application is also responsible for instances where the show has been removed, renamed, or made similar changes that are applicable.

I suggest that you give our friends in Google Nest Community—Speakers and Display a shout. You can also check with our friends in the YouTube Help Community or the YouTube Help team since they’re also responsible for this. I just don’t want you to wait here in the Chromecast threads for answers or solutions that are not intended for Chromecast, because there’s nothing wrong with your Chromecast Ultra to begin with.

I hope this sheds some light on the situation. Let us know if you have concerns with your actual Chromecast Ultra.

Thanks,

Kimy

I have the same devices that I had when ot was working. Didnt matter if I was using the home speaker, mini or the clock to give the commands they all worked and showed the same thing. Then one day all of them quit giving on screen options. There are multiple people complaining about the same issues. There are all these experts but it seems no one wants to look into what the issue is. Only thing that seems to happen is "we're looking into it" or "not a problem here look elsewhere". How come for the past 2 years I keep getting "kudos" or "same issue here" instead of questions or any experts wanting to try and figure it out? Seems there was some kind of update that screwed everything up and they said "not my problem".

Hello CAMeeks78,

Thanks for the reply. People may have joined your original thread posted two years ago, and until now, some may still be waiting for answers. Or, most likely, most of these participants may have had theirs answered by checking and/or posting on the community, which is specific to the products that actually have the Google Assistant, just like what I shared above. You’ve already waited for two years here in the Chromecast community. Your Chromecast Ultra is not broken and is working as intended. Perhaps it’s time to try the other teams, who may already have an answer for this. I sure hope you get the answer you’re looking for. Feel free to get back here if you have other concerns with your Chromecast Ultra.

Sincerely,

Kimy
