Live Channels app icon doesn't show on CCwGTV

The "Live Channels" app by Google doesn't show it's icon on the Chromecast with Google TV (CCwGTV), but not all functionality from the "Live Channels" app is in the "Live" tab.

For example tuners on your home network can show up in the "Live Channels" app, and it works great to access your antenna using Android TV, but since the channels app icon is hidden on CCwGTV it makes it difficult to use just the CCwGTV for both streaming and antenna channels. If more functionality from the "Live Channels" app was brought to the "Live" tab, like network attached tuners, and customizing visible and hidden channels. Then it would be fine to not show the "Live Channels" app on CCwGTV, but it's very odd that the app icon is hidden for an app that is still required seperate from the "Live" tab.

Hey there sincerecelery,

Welcome to the Chromecast Community Forum! This is something I've noticed as well, so, If you have the time, would you be able to submit feedback via Google TV? Google takes all feedback seriously, and the more feedback they receive regarding a specific feature, the more likely they are to prioritize it.

I look forward to your response, and if you have any other questions or concerns for me, please let me know! Otherwise, I'll lock the thread in 24 hours.

Best regards,
Jeran

I can submit feedback to google on this. But it seems this has been a known issue for many years and it seems like a huge oversight to have the app icon hidden even if its installed on the CCwGTV. I would like more information about this, instead of just sending a comment into the void.

Hey there sincerecelery,

Of course, thank you for submitting feedback on this! This is something I've also seen suggested in the past, and sadly, I haven't heard any news or planned updates on it yet. Feedback is nice here, since Google does prioritize features that receive more feedback. I'd be happy to pass the feedback myself as well.

I hope that helps. In the meantime, do you have any more questions or need any additional help?

Thank you,
Jeran

I suppose not. I am not sure why Google's policy is to lock threads. I came here because a thread about this was already locked, so I was forced to make a new post.  Also I still haven't received an explanation for why Google is hiding an app's icon when it's installed on my Google TV. If I install an app the app should show itself and not just be hidden in the background. The fact that android even allows this to happen could raise concerns about malware or spyware apps being installed on a Google TV but a normal user won't see the app since it doesn't show it's icon.

Hiya sincerecelery,

We apologize if this thread was closed sooner than you would have liked. As Community Specialists, we occasionally do a bit of housekeeping to keep the conversations in our community fresh and relevant. This includes locking threads after a period of inactivity, or if we've come to some kind of conclusion. We invite you to search the Community to see if a discussion is open and ongoing about your topic. If not, you're more than welcome to start a new thread.

As for the apps running in the background, there is a good amount of apps that run in the background on the Chromecast in particular. However, you shouldn't need to worry about malware or spyware as you are able to view your installed apps via these steps:

  1. From the Google TV home screen, scroll to the "Apps" tab.
  2. Scroll down to the "Your apps" section and find your apps.

You can also go to Settings > Apps > See All Apps see every app, even the background ones.

I look forward to your response, and if you'd like me not to lock the thread at all, I can do that, just let me know.

Best regards,

Jeran
